I like Creedence Clearwater Revival, but I did not really hear this song until I heard John Fogerty on Marc Maron’s interview podcast, WTF. I heard it with new ears and appreciated the sentiment and I really appreciated how Fogerty sings it.
I make gestures sometimes. I keep the front porch light on. I had a sign on the front door that said, “Friends of Miles are Always Welcome Here.” I sleep in his bed. I tidy the books and things on his desk. I look at the clothes in his drawers. I keep a light on inside the house sometimes to make it welcoming, in case he finds his way back when I am not there.
